Pain Management Program

Chronic pain can accompany a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions and treatment of the underlying condition may not provide satisfactory relief of pain. For many patients pain control is less than satisfactory and this area of care does not receive proper attention from the treating physician. We offer a comprehensive pain program for musculoskeletal pain administered by physicians with special expertise in pain management.

The pain program is multi-disciplinary and includes a rheumatologist, a psychiatrist, a physiatrist, physical therapists, occupational therapists, a social worker, and when needed orthopedists and anesthesiologists. Our inpatient pain program is the only program in the metropolitan area and is approved by C.A.R.F. Eligibility for the program is determined by a thorough outpatient evaluation by several of the pain team members.

Patients who complete the inpatient program receive continued care through an outpatient program either at the Rheumatology Faculty Practice or at the hospital Pain Center. For patients undergoing surgery at the Hospital For Joint Diseases, the pain program provides pre-operative consultation and also provides post operative follow up for pain medication. We offer patient controlled analgesia and a variety of nerve blocks and spinal injections for musculoskeletal pain management.
