Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a condition of widespread musculoskeletal pain characterized by tender trigger points in muscle groups throughout the body. It may occur as a primary condition or may complicate a variety of systemic illnesses such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Lyme Disease, central sleep disturbance, or depression.

The rheumatologist is the physician with the greatest expertise in determining the cause of fibromyalgia in a particular patient and determining the optimal therapeutic intervention. We have rheumatologists on staff with special expertise in fibromyalgia as well as other physicians in neurology, orthopedics, physiatry, and psychiatry who can assist in the care of a particular patient. We offer a full array of traditional therapy including medication and physical therapy and have recently started a multi-disciplinary outpatient program which combines traditional medicine with non-traditional approaches including naturopathic approaches and T'ai Chi.
